 2018 Preview

Holly Pond completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region six, the Broncos earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Holly Pond's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to West Morgan by a score of 35-0.

The Broncos won as many games as in any season since 2004. The Broncos have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2018.

Since 2010, the Holly Pond football program has struggled with a record of 21-62.

Over the past 25 seasons, Holly Pond has managed to compile a record of 95-154. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 3A and 295th in the AHSAA.

The Broncos are led by head coach Mike Bates who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-38 over the past five seasons at Holly Pond. Under his direction the Broncos have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bates.

Coach Bates' overall record as a head football coach in twenty-nine season stands at 165-147 (52.9%). His 165 wins rank 22nd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Bates' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won five region championships. Coach Bates won a state championship at in 2007.

The Holly Pond Broncos will play in Class 3A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Broncos remain in 3A but move from region six over to region five.

The Broncos will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season.

The Broncos open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent New Hope on Friday, August 24 at Holly Pond Stadium. Last year the New Hope Indians finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 3A region seven. The Indians closed out the regular season with a loss to Midfield by a score of 44-7.

Holly Pond and New Hope have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Broncos have a 8-6-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2013 with New Hope winning by a score of 46-0.

Holly Pond returns 3A All-State  athlete Kyler Chaney. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
